Kitchen Renovation

We completed our kitchen renovation seven months ago, which was a little over a year after we moved in.  I love everything about our home, but upon purchasing we knew the kitchen was one area we wanted to make some improvements and changes in.  We spend so much time cooking, baking and hosting that it was an area we really wanted to love.  I could not be happier and I am excited to show you guys the transformation!

This is what the kitchen looked like originally, Drew had just started taking down the old back splash.  This is something he had done this before and is super handy (thank goodness)!  He next installed under cabinet lighting along with lighting inside our glass door cabinets.  This is always a nice touch you can add that does not break the bank!

I knew I wanted a big white farmhouse sink, and did a lot of research.  Drew helped me find the perfect one that has a shorter front apron so that we did not have to cut into our existing cabinets.  He and my Dad installed the sink, it is so dreamy!

I wanted to go with gold hardware and fixtures and found this faucet and these pulls.

Next we hired an electrician to come in to relocate all of the outlets, moving them up underneath the cabinets.  He additionally relocated the disposal switch as I wanted to install a button on the counter next to the faucet.

We had a subcontractor come to paint the cabinets.  I settled on Benjamin Moore's snow.  Our cabinets are maple and could not have turned out better, they did such an amazing job!  Painting kitchen cabinets is something you can certainly do on your own, but we knew it would take a really long time to complete if we did it ourselves.

I went with quartz for our counters, I wanted the look of marble but not the maintenance.  There are so many options these days for quartz, I ended up choosing Carrara Grigio.

For the backsplash, I chose these marble tiles (they are priced so well).  My Dad and Drew did the install, they also did the backsplash on the last house we owned in Baltimore.  Since marble is a natural stone you will find it varies greatly, I would recommend having a design placement plan if you are going with marble subway tiles such as these.  We separated them out by bright white, light grey and grey so it was easy to make sure we had a good amount of each throughout the pattern.

Funny enough, the last thing we did was the thing I hated most in the kitchen, the light fixtures.  As you can see in the first pictures above they were these small RED pendant lights that just made my skin crawl every time I looked at them.  I always joked with Drew that we were in the photo lab whenever they were turned on.  I searched, and searched for months to find the perfect fixtures.  I feel lighting can be difficult, it is one of those things where you have an idea in mind, but have a hard time finding what you are looking for.  I can't tell you how many times Drew said to me, "just find something, and order it", ha!  I did end up ordering two different styles and went with these.  We love them, and get so many compliments!

I love having a bright white kitchen and being able to add pops of color whether it be for a holiday, special occasion or just the change of seasons.  It truly opens up our home and I cant wait to enjoy it for years to come!  Let me know in the comments if you have any questions, I have linked most of the products mentioned below as well.

xoxo,

Jenny
